Introduction to Ergodic Theory and Results on Nonrecurrence
Abstract: In this talk we will introduce the subject of ergodic theory by going over some basic definitions and examples. Also we will talk about recurrence and nonrecurrence of sequences. This talk should be accessible to most graduate students.

Total positivity in loop groups
Abstract: The talk is based on joint work with Thomas Lam. We study infinite products of Chevalley generators in the formal loop group. I will describe the formalism of infinite sequences of braid moves, called a braid limit. I will relate this to a partial order, called the limit weak order, on infinite reduced words. I will also explain the original motivation for this work. This includes generalizing both Lusztig's theory of total positivity in reductive groups and the Edrei-Thoma theorem.

Quasisymmetic Maps
Abstract: Quasisymmetic Maps are the immediate generalization of Quasiconformal Maps in General Metric Spaces. In this talk I will present the basic theory of these functions, the connection with Quasiconformal Maps in Euclidean Spaces and some open problems. If time permits I will prove some of the basic statements.

Sums and Products, X
Abstract: This week we'll continue looking at section 2 in Udi Hrushovski's paper "Stable group theory and approximate subgroups". In the arXiv, this is paper 0909.2190v2 [math.LO]
