Tits alternative for subgroups of GL(n,C)
Abstract: Tits alternatives states that a finitely generated subgroup of GL(n,C) is either virtually solvable or contains a non-abelian free subgroup. I will sketch the idea behind the Dixon's proof of this result. In particular I'll try to explain how non-abelian free subgroups emerge in the proof. --- This talk is part of the joint 'Gromov' seminar.
