Four Colors suffices & other mathematical wondermentsAbstract: Last October, Wolfram Research and the University of Illinois hosted an event for Martin Gardner's 96th birthday called the Gathering for Gardner. The event included short presentations on recreational mathematics and fun math puzzles, and was attended by over 80 people ranging from middle school students to tenured faculty members. We are holding the event again this year on Friday, October 21st from 5-8 PM in 314 Altgeld Hall (on the University of Illinois Campus), and will have talks on recreational mathematics from undergraduate and graduate math students, as well as from professional mathematicians both from the University of Illinois and from Wolfram Research. The event is part of the worldwide event, Gathering for Gardner - Celebration of Mind. (see http://www.g4g-com.org/ ). Confirmed speaker: Mark Abordo, Jayadev Athreya, Bruce Carpenter, John P D'Angelo, Pete Glaze, Ed Pegg, M.Tip Phaovibul, Piotr Przytycki, Bruce Reznick, Marcin Sabok, Ken Stolarsky.
