Higher pentagram maps, weighted directed networks, and cluster dynamics
Abstract: Introduced by R. Schwartz about 20 years ago, the pentagram map acts on plane polygons, considered up to projective equivalence, by drawing the diagonals that connect second-nearest vertices and taking the new polygon formed by their intersections. The pentagram map is a discrete completely integrable system whose continuous limit is the Boussinesq equation, a completely integrable PDE of soliton type. In this talk, I shall describe a new family of discrete completely integrable dynamical systems, including the pentagram map, and explain their connection to the theory of cluster algebras, a new and rapidly growing area with numerous connections to diverse fields of mathematics.

Results of the feasibility study for the expansion/renovation/upgrading of Altgeld/Illini Halls
Abstract: The results of the feasibility study for the expansion/renovation/upgrading of Altgeld and Illini Halls will be presented. Please plan to attend one of these sessions: Tuesday November 29 2:00-2:50 pm or Friday December 2 4:00-4:50 pm. We will summarize the process, recommendations, and next steps. Please come and view our potential future!

Interpreting the projective hierarchy in expansions of the ordered set of real numbers
Abstract: We give a powerful criterion when an expansion of the ordered set of real numbers defines the image of $(\mathbb{R},+,\cdot,\mathbb{N})$ under a semialgebraic injection. In particular, we show that for a non-quadratic irrational number $\alpha$, the expansion of the ordered $\mathbb{Q}(\alpha)$-vector space of real numbers by $\mathbb{N}$ interprets $(\mathbb{R},+,\cdot,\mathbb{N})$. This is joint work with Michael Tychonievich.
